Until Respectful Partnerships came along in 2004, gays would typically use contractIn particularlaw to approach a similar legal outcome as full legal marriage. They would, for criterion, buy or rent a house as joint tenants, thereby automatically inheriting the other associate’s part of the house or lease upon that partner’s end. Or they would contract between them as to how they would contribute to household costs. Or they would simply assemble a will; or have life insurances in each other’s names. There did always remain ways in whichOn the wholethey could not be the equal of their heterosexual partners through mere contractual arrangements, singularly where the state gave specific direct privileges to frank married couples. In addition, one could never be certain as to whether a contract would face up in court: e.g. what if a bigoted judge rejected the claim for the duration insurance money by a surviving gay partner against an insurance throng? Their owner, Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe (Galz), said the two were assaulted by control while in confinement.
