Islamabad—Senate Going Committee on Human Rights expressed serious concerns on the deteriorating law and category situation in the country and directed all Inspector Generals (IGs) to take immediate steps.

The body which met here on Thursday under the Chairmanship of Senator S. M. Zafar said all IGs are accountable for boulevard crimes and target killing of citizens in the country.

The committee also took notice of anarchy in Karachi and increasing happening of police torture. Senator Suriya Amiruddin recommended to suspend whole organization of the police stations where high rate of crimes is reported as it would be a constructive strategy to improve performance of the department.

A representative of Punjab police officers informed the committee that 50 cases of police torture were reported in 2010 that were reduced to 35 in 2011.
